Well, everyone else is doing it, so let's pretend my opinion matters to someone, somewhere. *laughs* Anyway - after having a few days to consider, hash, reread and contemplate everything in the book, I think I've come to my overall feelings for it. And quite amusing, to me at least, Adam has never - aside from him and another friend reading passages at the end of HBP while we were in line just to taunt - read any of the books. He's seen the movies and that's as far as his personal understanding of the septology reaches. Except for the fact that he knows every minute detail of HBP and back stories because I basically told him the book. Since I began reading it, he's endured sitting there and listening to me talk out all my feelings, reactions and theories. Brilliantly played the part of 'support your local obsessive HP fan'. And it makes me giddy to know that both my mom and my mother in law are dying in suspense as I've yet to loan the book to either of them. I've totally hooked them. Squee for me. LoL.

I'm torn, over all, with being able to make a decision on saying I love the book or I was sorely disapointed. I think that over all, a few of the major plot lines have encaptured me to the point that I adore them, while many of the smaller plotlines - although I enjoyed them for the simple fact that they were still filled with characters I love - seemed to take me away from where I preferred to be with the book. Ah, most of my complaints are probably a) reduntant with everyone elses, and b) not entirely that big of a deal in the over all scheme of things with the books- most probably. And I've been wondering if my facination within the fanon world hasn't deluted my senses about actually reading canon now? I'm anxiously awaiting opinions from people who don't read fan fiction, who aren't completely thrown into the magical world and are just, simply put, fans of the series. Considering that we've taken these beloved characters under our own wing for such a time, I'm sure that we've grown quite attached to them in our own minds. And with that being said - I'm forcing myself to look at this book in the mindset that they are her characters and her plots. They are what's brought me this far, anyway.

Taking that step back has allowed me to better receive the book, I think. And to be quite honest - although it is no secret to most how much I love this series, including all the little stuff - my major facination with the series, is, of course - the septology mystery; Harry and his defeating Voldemort. And in this aspect, especially after hashing out ideas, opinions and theories with a dear friend for over 3 hours last night - I'm estatic over what HBP has brought us. Heh, my desk (and hers, I'm sure) was a mess with all 6 books and every book I own that theorizes and explains them, spread out. The Lexicon was open in multiple tabs on my browzer, as well as me (and Liz) hopping back and forth to any known source on the internet. I think last night actually proved how obsessed we are...all fan fiction love aside. :-p

And my two most favorite aspects of the book - probably the two biggest omg!wha? plot lines - are Snape having killed Dumbledore and the mystery of who RAB is. Theories galore! And I think I'm set in my beliefs already - seems to follow what the majority believe as well, interestingly.

I can't help but admit this - I love how Snape ended up killing Dumbledore. Don't get me wrong, I was upset when comprehension set in that Dumbledore, was in fact, dead. But I never believed he'd survive through the entire series; it just didn't work out right in my mind. Perhaps that, with having already prepared myself for a major death (I wasn't, strangely enough, near as upset as I was at the end of Book 5 - which caught me completely off guard.) and the foreshadowing throughout the book that he wasn't going to make it - allowed me to see right past Snape's nose. =) I'm sure many of you are aware (and may believe it as well) the theory that Dumbledore was not begging for his life with Snape, but for Snape to kill him. I completely follow this, and if it's true - I am completely in love with this idea. We've just been bashed too much with Dumbledore's word, opinions and thoughts being 'law' for him to have been decieved by Snape all this time. Both wizards were masters at Occlem., so who knows what really was being said in that brief hesitation before Snape said the words? And this would make Ch 2 an unbelievablely wonderful little plot device. It made us hate Snape even more, it gave us a glimpse at just how the DE's work, and just how spoiled they all are. And, I'm very curious to where that scene is going to take Peter, as that was the only mention we received of him. (which I found quite comical, really - Snape's servent basically - hah!) And of course, Snape's reactions to when Harry was attempting to duel with him - Snape only threw counter-curses and continued to berate Harry and his abilities (or lack of) which seems important. And - what led me to believing this theory - the reaction to being called a Coward. Aside from the obvious reasons, my mind keeps rolling back to James. Aside from learning more about what type of person he was, what else was the reasoning on learning that James saved Snape's life? Snape has yet to completely fullfill his debt to James (added to how he helped take him to his demise with hearing the prophet).

I think this has something to do with why Dumbledore did trust him. The only way left for Snape to repay James, is to pay it upon Harry. We all remember the arguement Hagrid overheard between Snape and Dumbledore? Snape is now in the perfect position. DE's and Voldemort trust him - after all, he killed Dumbledore. The Order, and I'm sure the Ministry and public - hate him with even more passion than their mundane dislike before. Personally, I'm thinking Snape is going to be the biggest role (and biggest character) to help Harry in the end.

Wow, is there a limit to how many words an entry can be? Heh.

Next biggest thing (I loved): Who is RAB? I'm going with the populus - Regulus Black. Too much just points to him and it'd make sense being that we never really did know much about him, so why couldn't it have been him? Plus, this gives Harry a start on continuing his quest now that Dumbledore isn't there to spoon him or direct him with the info. It makes things reachable for Harry. And I just can't see JKR introducing such a major character in the last book - there's too much else that needs to happen to bother us with learning a brand new character.

And in an interview, JKR has stated in Book 7 that a member of the Order (that we know is a member, but we really don't know anything about) is going to become bigger. Ideas? Liz and I are wondering if it'll be Aberforth. He's rather mysterious, missing from Albus's funeral, and he is (at least was) the bartender at the Hog's Heade. (and for some reason, that just seems important, somehow)

Of course, none of this could be right, but it helps the contents of 6 go down better for me.

I'm curious as to just exactly what the point of Snape and him being the Half Blood Prince was. Aside from us just getting more in depth and inside info about Snape - what purpose does it serve? For being the title, the Potions book and that mystery weren't that huge in the over all plot of 6 (although, I did much enjoy the look into Tom Riddle's rise and family history). I'm just wondering, and the feeling I get, is that Book 6 was simply just moving everyone into place for 7. 1-5 were filled with stories, character building and introductions (for both us and Harry) to the world. 6 is the set-up, the lines have been drawn, the info been shared and now - 7 and the final blows.Which totally makes me excited about the last book. Except, in my fan fiction loving ways, I don't want it to end, at least, not with all the information we want. LoL.

And other, more light, comments - the ships. Gaaah, this was my biggest problem with the book. I know they're young, teenage, hormone-inraged wizards, and yes, I do enjoy my bit of romance - but - none of this seemed important to me. It seemed like filler to me, in the book, for things to be happening while Harry wasn't learning about Tom Riddle or something. I've never been a huge shipper, fan fiction wise, I'll give any of them a try. Just for that reason, they aren't that important to me, so I really don't have much of an opinion except, for the most part, they felt empty for being 'love' stories. If I blinked, I missed Harry and Ginny. Ron's whole story line was rather amusing, but...over played. Remus and Tonks - more power to them, whatever - but *blinks rapidly* why? Where did that come from? LoL. Although, more proof of love in the darkest of times, I suppose. Bill and Fluer was both amusing and sweet. I'm wondering what's going to come with Bill having been bit-

GREYBACK - perhaps my favorite new character - he's so...raw and scary and I don't like him one bit. The image in my mind when he volunteered to kill Dumbledore? *shivers*

Other new characters- Look out fan fiction world - you've been given Romilda Vane. *snerks* And I can only imagine where people are going to take Lavender. LoL. Scrimgeour? He just fits as the perfect (politician) Minister for right now. His attitude and the way he's going about things - it takes away the limelight from the Ministry, leaving us to be able to focus on Harry with Fudge out now. Although I must say - I'm loving Harry's new attitude. It's so...James-like. Pompus and sarcastic and saying what he feels? Love it. And the light shed on Lily? The idea of her being in the Slug Club makes me laugh - it just makes it sound as though she was more like James than she probably ever admitted. *amused nose scrunch* So, Slughorn? I enjoyed him - he left me unsure of his character for most of the book, and I liked that. I found it interesting how he's choosing the light side now- considering he helped Tom Riddle so much. His personality is his downfall - which is common and most people's problem; his is obvious.

I was disapointed that Neville and Luna didn't have bigger parts, but being they were the only DA members to come running, perhaps they'll be bigger in Book 7. Draco. Haha. I enjoyed this, as well, although I missed the usual bickering he and Harry usually share. (I think I was just accustomed to it) It shed a lot of light into his character - and I'm questioning how the series will end with him. DE for prosperity's sake, turn to the light side because he obviously is below killing for fun, or - not survive? Guess we'll see, I haven't played too much with thoughts on him except that I laughed at the  picture of him crying to Moaning Myrtle. *cackles*

Well, I think I wrote more than I had intended - and I'm not quite sure I even hit all the points I wanted to. Over all? Parts disapointed me, it's not my favorite of the 6, but I did enjoy it. With all the smaller plot lines and stories we've grown used to and all the fun fan fiction - this book took me back to the real reason I fell in love with Harry Potter.

Harry Potter and the Beatles (and hockey) - I obsess to the point that it's probably unhealthy, and they are - my most proudest obsessions. =)

Heh, I may add more comments later - I may never speak of this book again. (okay, that's highly unlikely) And I may start writing again...since it's been shoved to the side for the past week. You can shoot me in the foot later, for taking so long, I promise.

Huggles.

Bah, I'm confused on what you mean? Are you asking if he's a Slazar Slytherin decendent? I don't see that he could be, Voldemort, err, Tom Riddle, was the last of the line, was he not? We don't really know anything about Eileen Prince, other than she was, obviously pure blood? Actually, that could be questionable, too. But, no, if I'm understanding your question right, he's not. Although it is interesting, his and Voldemort's parentage is the same. O_o

Ah. I didn't mean the same line - although now I wish I knew what exaclty I had written - just that they're similer. Both halfbloods (I'm not worried about comments, if any readers are reading comments, then they can easily look up and read the spoilers of my opinions) and it was their mother that was the pure blood on both sides. I'm actually, rather curious now, to what Tobias was really like. I wonder if we'll ever find that out...

But WAIT - did they make out? Because I read them kissing what, twice? Where was the relationship even at? It made the tattoo conversation that much greater, being it was practically the only time we saw them as a 'dating' couple.

Seriously - what was with that? Harry and his hero-complex. Come on, Gin, you've already played the part of damsel in distress once, what's another round at it?

There may as well have been no relationship there - all I can say is let's hope there's more development in the next book? Bah.

i've been dying to talk about the sixth book for a few days now. none of my friends have read it and since the harry potter message boards are a pain in the butt... lol. anywho- i agree and disagree with different parts of your wonderfully written review of the sixth book, missers. i felt like the love stories were a little too much like filler also but i think j.k. had a good reason for putting them in there. i have a feeling it'll be big in the seventh book or that she was trying to make a theme of love through out the book since dumbledore said it was the only power voldemort didn't have and it'll be harry's bigest weapon. so i think harry is going to need ginny in the seventh book to defeat voldemort as well as ron and hermione. i think the whole harry not going back to school was an awesome twist at the end there. i hate that harry and ginny broke up but i saw it comin. as much as i saw dumbledore's death coming i still cried the whole last fifty pages of the book. the weirdest part is i could totally see like a movie scene playing in my head during that whole part- isn't that so much fun when that happens? so the sixth book was probably my fav book just because it was cool seeing everything start to come together (come on- we have so been waiting for the ron+hermione and harry+ginny hook ups for who knows how long) and there was just something kinda special about it to me. anywho- this post was way too long but i jsut needed to get this out there. luv ya and i can't wait till i finally update on your stories!

luv ya, Steph

PS: was it me or did the book seem not as well edited as the others? maybe i'm just getting better at catching grammar mistakes...

I don't think it sucked as much as it jsut kinda disturbed the "harmony" of the book. (do i sound like a highschool english teacher or what? lol)

I sitll really liked the book, I jsut think there were a few thigns J.K. should have spent more time on.

Steph! *huggles*

You make a good point with the over all conception of love being a theme in the book; I never thought of it that way. But I do agree with you that Ginny will play a big role with Harry in the last book. I'm so curious as to what kind of role (can she really take it out completely?) Hogwarts will play in 7. I did read in an interview that we won't have another Quidditch scene - Luna's wonderfully comical comentation was our last one. *sigh*

Ahh, I do know what you mean! I can definitely see this book in movie form. Too bad, it'll still be a couple years till we get there...

Luv ya, darling! *huggles n cookies*

I agree that J.K. can't completely take hogwarts out of the picture. I mean... it's Hogwarts! the center of every single previous book! But i read that same interview where she said that Luna's commentary would eb the last quidditch game. Did you also read that Harry's eyes will be a major part in the seventh book? I jsut can't wait to find out more about Harry's past in the seventh when he goes back to godric's hollow. I also want know if lily being a potions wiz will come into play and if maybe she got help from snape... anywho- i have so many ideas bouncing in my head right now i jsut want the seventh book to come out tomorrow so i can put my mind to rest! I'm such a dork that i'm actually going through and rereading all six books to catch anything that i might have missed. yes, yes- i'm an official harry potter dork but i'm proud of it! lol. anywho- this post is long enough. ciao!
