The end may be near?
Apr. 27th, 2005 10:59 pmWell, I'm sure that everyone knows of the latest going-on's (did I just
make that 'word' up?) at ff.net. And all I have to say to that is, bullshit. That is bullshit, seriously. Tell me, please, the difference between writing fanfiction,
which is based off of another's work and giving credit and disclaimers
and using musical lyrics, which is someone else's work, and giving credit and disclaimers?
Songs set the mood. How many movies do you see that have no music? Eh? It pulls in the emotions, it connects the scene(s) and the reader (or watcher, in the case of a movie/television show) to emotions.
So. I'm (already being in a tempermental and pissy mood) saying fuck it. I am not going back through what I have of three different stories and editing out the song lyrics that I gave credit for. I am not wasting my time to change my writing and lose my reviews (of which have given me considerable criticism, confidence and many smiles) just so that I can mold to fit someone else's writing standards.
I'll risk losing it all rather than conform.
With that being said, (sorry, Holly! if you, for some reason, don't get to read either, tell me and I'll give them to you) I am going to update both Ride the Wind and What Dreams May Come tonight (please don't kill me for the many mistakes that may be present...LoL) and take my chances.
They have rules, but I have rights and opinions. And options of going elsewhere.
*much love to anyone other than ff.net*

Well put
on 2005-04-28 05:18 am (UTC)And you're right, all movies have music - even silent movies have music (which rather defeats the name of the genre but you know what I mean)!
Great, just excuse me while I stalk off and drink a million litres of Coke and eat tons of Skittles to calm down ...
Re: Well put
on 2005-04-28 05:24 am (UTC)If they can prove to me that artist (though, I wouldn't put it past some) are actually complaining of the usage of their music in fanfiction (and so many other random places throughout everyday life) then fine, I'll accept it. Until then - MEH.
(I LUV Skittles! =) The yellow and grape combo is my favorite. Have one for me.)

Re: Well put
on 2005-04-28 05:38 am (UTC)I don't think you've got too much to worry about with the artists complaining though - I just had an image of Britney Spears suing over extra publicity. It didn't last long.
Glad that there'll be new chapters to read - I'm in love with James from Ride the Wind at the moment, hehe.
Re: Well put
on 2005-04-28 05:37 am (UTC)I feel the same way, but when I mentioned this in
Read this thread (http://www.livejournal.com/community/deleterius/1388007.html?thread=29493991#t29493991) for some insight...sadly, the world doesn't care whether we cite. If they want to sue, technically, I fear they can.
We'll just have to wait and see what comes of this whole mess.
Re: Well put
on 2005-04-28 05:53 am (UTC)It was an eye-opener reading that thread, thanks for putting the link up. As a business law student, the logical part of me can understand it completely, it's just the humane 'give everyone a go, a spade's a spade' side still wants to tell them to boil their heads over something so petty.

on 2005-04-29 05:15 am (UTC)If it's losing the reviews that worries you, you CAN edit your posted chapters w/o any effect on them. You just upload the 'new' version of the chapter into document manager and then in 'Edit Story' screen go to 'Replace the text of an existing chapter with new content' (it's underneath 'Submit new chapter'). Then just select the chapter that you're uploading the edited version of, below that pick the document you uploaded in document manager and hit 'Replace Chapter'. It shouldn't have any effect on your reviews whatsoever, because you never deleted the chapter.
ff.net is evil.
on 2005-04-30 02:47 am (UTC)Nothing has happened to my ff.net stories, but I haven't updated them in over a year either..
Can you please explain to me how to join that community?
I can click on the link to get there.. but then I don't know how to become a member.
Re: ff.net is evil.
on 2005-04-30 06:34 pm (UTC)Just go to the Info page of the community.

I hope nothing DOES happen to your stories, Keeks, I love them! (you should update...*grins*)
